“Bringing hearing impaired children to speech…”
Our goal is for all children enrolled in our program to learn to listen and speak, via hearing aids/cochelar implants, and develop age-appropriate spoken language, in order to attend mainstream schools at kindergarten age alongside their hearing peers.
At Hear the Children we provide specialist auditory-verbal early intervention services, free-of-charge, for hearing impaired babies and children, as well as children with significant language delays.
The benefits of early intervention…
The years between birth and five are the most critical language learning years and this is why early intervention is so essential. Without structured and consistent early intervention, a child with a hearing impairment will be unlikely to develop age appropriate spoken language or intelligible speech. Without language, a child will have difficulties interacting with others and will experience ongoing social and learning difficulties throughout their life.
The ‘Auditory-Verbal’ Early Intervention program offered at Hear the Children has consistently demonstrated outstanding results year-on-year, with greater than 90% of children achieving their developmental milestones and entering mainstream schools.
Our service is a broad-based community initiative that offers a caring and supportive family-centred environment to enable parents to become the major teachers in their child’s language development.
